Internship Observatory

Inner- Connect and Chetana Hospital Internship/ Observation Program

The program will be divided into the following 12 -week schedule for your internship:

Week 1: Introduction to Mental Health Services

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand the mission and services of the mental health center.
  2. Familiarize yourself with the center’s policies and procedures.
  3. Develop an understanding of the role of mental health professionals.

Activities:

– Orientation session with the center director

– Tour of the center’s facilities

– Meeting with mental health professionals to discuss their roles and responsibilities

Week 2: Assessment and Diagnosis

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand the process of assessment and diagnosis.
  2. Learn about the different assessment tools and techniques used.
  3. Develop an understanding of the importance of cultural competence in assessment.

Activities:

– Observation of assessment sessions

– Review of assessment tools and techniques

– Discussion with mental health professionals on cultural competence in assessment

Week 3: Treatment Planning and Intervention

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand the process of treatment planning and intervention.
  2. Learn about the different therapeutic approaches and techniques used.
  3. Develop an understanding of the importance of evidence-based practice.

Activities:

Observation of treatment planning sessions 

Review of treatment plans and progress notes 

– Discussion with mental health professionals on therapeutic approaches and techniques 

Week 4: Group Therapy and Support Groups

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand the principles and practices of group therapy.
  2. Learn about the different types of support groups offered.
  3. Develop an understanding of the role of group therapy in mental health treatment.

Activities:

– Observation of group therapy sessions

– Review of support group materials and resources

– Discussion with mental health professionals on the benefits and challenges of group therapy

Week 5: Crisis Intervention and Emergency Services

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand the principles and practices of crisis intervention.
  2. Learn about the center’s emergency services and protocols.
  3. Develop an understanding of the role of crisis intervention in mental health treatment.

Activities:

– Observation of crisis intervention sessions

– Review of emergency services and protocols

– Discussion with mental health professionals on crisis intervention techniques and strategies

Week 6: Working with Diverse Populations

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand the importance of cultural competence in working with diverse populations.
  2. Learn about the center’s services and programs for diverse populations.
  3. Develop an understanding of the role of cultural competence in mental health treatment.

Activities:

– Observation of services and programs for diverse populations

– Review of cultural competence materials and resources

– Discussion with mental health professionals on cultural competence in practice

Week 7: Mental Health Education and Community Outreach

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand the importance of mental health education and community outreach.
  2. Learn about the center’s education and outreach programs.
  3. Develop an understanding of the role of education and outreach in promoting mental health.

Activities:

– Observation of education and outreach programs

– Review of education and outreach materials and resources

– Discussion with mental health professionals on the importance of education and outreach

Week 8: Conclusion and Final Project

Learning Objectives:

  1. Summarize key takeaways from the observatory experience.
  2. Develop a final project or presentation on a topic related to mental health.
  3. Reflect on the observatory experience and its application to future practice.

Activities:

– Final project or presentation

– Reflection on the observatory experience

– Evaluation of the observatory experience and suggestions for improvement

Week 9: Identifying Concerning Behaviors

Learning Objectives:

  1. Develop skills to recognize and identify concerning behaviors related to mental health and personality disorders in clients.
  2. Understand the importance of early identification and intervention.

Activities:

– Observation and participation in sessions with clients exhibiting concerning behaviors

– Review of case studies and discussion with supervisor

– Training on assessment tools and techniques for identifying concerning behaviors

Week 10: Psychoeducation and Skill Development

Learning Objectives:

  1. Learn about psychoeducation techniques and strategies to educate clients about mental health topics.
  2. Develop note-taking skills and conduct intake sessions with clients.

Activities:

– Participation in psychoeducation sessions with clients

– Practice note-taking and intake sessions with supervision

– Review of psychoeducation materials and resources

Week 11: Multimodal Approach

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand the multimodal approach to treatment and how to integrate different therapeutic modalities.
  2. Learn how to assess client needs and develop treatment plans that incorporate multiple approaches.

Activities:

– Review of multimodal treatment approaches and case studies

– Practice note-taking and intake sessions with supervision

– Discussion on integrating different therapeutic modalities

Week 12: Case Closure and Transition

Learning Objectives:

  1. Learn how to effectively close a case, including terminating treatment, transitioning clients to other services, and documenting case closure.
  2. Develop skills to ensure a smooth transition for clients and maintain continuity of care.

Activities:

– Participation in case closure sessions with supervisor

– Review of case closure documentation and procedures

– Discussion on ensuring continuity of care and smooth transitions
